Auktober?

OK I've gone and done it again.  Run out of time in Orctober, this time the half term at home with the kids (and my paints) turned out to be a half term in Suffolk with the kids and no paint. Bame the wife.

We did go to Framlingham Castle which is always good, a first time for my boys too.

I read Lamentations, C. J. Sansoms 2014 historical crime novel from front to back. It's a good bit of fun set in the final months of Henry VIII's reign. It has really put me in the mood for some WHFRP.

But no little orcs to be held in my hand. But thanks to my Brother in law and intrepid world wide birder extrodinare I did witness the saving of a Little Auk. Not rare at sea these little birds are rare in land, even on the coast. My eldest son is bird mad so was over the moon to see this Orc, erm Auk transported safely back to the sea. Until they get out of the surf they can be prey to herring gulls a few of which were buzzing about but readers will be happy to know that Gauk and Mauk looked kindly on the little fella and he was soon speeding through the deeper water out to sea.

It means my Boysz haven't been finished so I've decided to keep entries to the Orctober prize give away open until I'm done myself. I really should post up what I'm giving away this year.

  1. Good hols.......my oldest is a twitcher too and he'll be twitching with jealousy when I show him this post (although he added curlews and avocets to his bag this week). Lets hope the Gods smile on this little Auk. I enjoyed Lametation, but nothing can beat Revelation...that had me reading for 48hrs solid. Any suitable figures out there for Shardlake and Barak?

    1. Yep we got an avocet this holiday, probably a curlew though I must confess I wasn't paying attention the whole holiday.

Another confesion, Lamentation is the first Shardlake I've read but it was good enough to give the others a try. The various citadel villagers/civillians ranges must have a Shardlake and Barak in them even if a hump needs adding.

    2. You are in for a treat then. Lametation , although very good, is the weakest in the series in my view, so you should enjoy the others immensely.

    1. Thanks RV, he's a fun miniature even if I don't recognise him. Like what you've doen with the skin and I don't think they are to harsh on the back.

  3. Orctober is about keeping Mork and Gork in your thoughts, not about how many figures you paint ;). I did finish up a couple more 20mm Orcs, but I don't think they count for your contest.

  4. That castle is grand. It has such a beautiful texture. I hope your boys liked it. It all sounds like an Auktober well spent.

    1. We are very lucky to live so close to so many castles, manor houses, churches and ancient burials. We stayed in Dunwich a little hamlet which is all thats left of a medieval city which disappeared under the North Sea, hows that for an adventure waiting to happen. Earlier this year we visited Burgh Castle, also very close to us and is actually a Roman Fort. I had no idea it was there but is was really well preserved given it's age.

    2. Dunwich ? ..... No strange invisible monsters roaming about eating cattle I hope. I remember a Cthulhu scenario in WD50 called the Watchers of Walberswick which was set in the English Dunwich in all but name.
