The knights of the flaming heart. Templers of Sigmar for my 80's Empire army.

Last post I showed a few halberdiers suggesting that this would be the next unit to be painted but I got distracted. I've had a selection of the 1988 Empire knights on giant plastic horses for years but never got round to painting them. Why I here you ask?  Because of the lack of barding on the horses. I've often thought about sculpting my own but lacked the courage, milliput or greenstuf on plastic has to be reasonably one way.

I could just mount them on the 1992 warhorses with barding. They are contemporary to 3rd ed but for me it just doesn't seam right. I know that those of you who use which ever great sculpt from which ever age or company must be rolling their eyes at the need to use 3rd ed horses of any kind, let alone the giant horses. We'll just have to blame it on the way my brain works and not over think it.

With BOYL14 fast approaching I decided to take the plunge. They are a little rough but they are not terrible. More importantly they seam right so I'm a happy lead head.

Only one is supposedly a templar but I like the winged helmets.

A big flag, hey it's fantasy.

I think I can get them a little less rough with a bit more sanding.

    1. More kniggets? You have loads! but then so do I so point taken. Even though I have a full compliment of the late 3rd/4th ed knights, plenty of the plastic ones and some of the fantastic Perry miniatures plastic knights I'm really excited about these old perry sculpts.

  3. Very impressive work there, I really like the jousting armour they are wearing.

    1. Yeah with the jousting armour they look very regal, we'll ignore the impracticalities of wearing it for war.

    2. They fight Trolls, Goblins, Ratmen and Elves. I think in grand scheme of unlikeliness wearing jousting armour for war can be forgiven!

  4. Look forward to seeing them painted up. I used to have quite a few of the different orders of knights from this range, they were huge and towered over everything else I had!

    1. I think their size is one of the things I love about them, if anything says +4 elite it is these chaps. They are almost level 5 characters after all. I have quite a few more of these winged helm guys, about ten of the knights panther a few of the two versions with the plumed helmet and four of the knights of the white wolf. If you happen to have any of the white wolf ones for trade let me know.

I also have the general, I'm considering magnetizing him so he can either ride to war or stand on the battlements. I have the mounted and standing wizard from the set to paint up soon.

    2. As it happens I've got a few bits in the old trades pile! 3 White Wolf torsos, 2 pairs of legs, a sword arm and a lance arm. I'll drop you a line on the Oldhammer forum.

  5. A very impressive unit and the banner looks splendid. You can hear them crying for paint.

    1. I know don't they just scream for paint as your say. I think it's the banner which I made a bit bigger than I would normally have. If my free hand goes exactly how I'm picturing it then this may well become one of my favorite units.

  6. Big Flag, big horses... Exactly that's what I love. Hold your "paint rhythm" Erny, you are on the good way.
Why you play your Knights by six?

    Nico.

    1. Five knights and a champion.

You are right though the only way to get anything done is to just keep going!
