Forenrond's Last Stand. Part 2.

OK, it took me longer than expected to get back to this but it's time to finish this two year old battle report.

From earlier on the battle I forgot to put this picture in the last post. And this is my favourite!

The elven archers begin to have an impact on Drilla's killas.

The first elven cavalry find fighting the gobbos up hill hard work, even charging in the flank.

Atlanta's magic had little impact on the battle, perhaps it was an off day for him being too excited to be surrounded by so much authentic oldhammeryness.

Slowly the 1st Elven Cavalry begin to chip away at the Pigstikkas.

One unit of Archers crosses the ford as a fanatic finally causes havoc in in 2nd Elven cavalry.

With more success Corma's elves manage to gain the hill top removing the goblin advantage.

Eventually they rout off the table followed by the victorious riders.

Who return ready to spill more green blood.

Mandrack The Murderer and his Mad Molesters wait patiently for the elves return.

Will the battle will be decided between the two generals and their followers?

After finally ending their squabble Erny's roamers are lead a merry dance by the 3rd Elven cavalry  and  Pepp's Killers take bow fire.

Pepp lines his killers up to charge the Archers.

Sick of hiding in the woods and emboldened by the elven casualties taken Gruesome Jobbo leads his Gobbo bows to close in for the kill.

Meanwhile Philander is the last survivor of the 2nd Cavalry, he is still more than enough to chase off the open Sore boyz.

The generals charge each other with the stakes so high neither issue challenges.

The orcs position on the hill is however telling and the greenskins wrap round.

Corma routs from the field but lives to fight another day.

So there you have it the Elves lose. Now from comments I've read some think this the usual situation but for me this is the only the second time I've not seen the elves win.

It was a great game and a belated thanks to Jeff and Snicket for making the game so much fun to GM (even if I did abscond near the end to look at Bryan's old lead collection.)

Forenrond's Last Stand. An almost 2 year old battle report.

BOYL 2015 is fats approaching and the Warhammer fantasy 3rd edition scenario Forenrond's last stand is due to be played again. This is a favourite scenario of mine, I must have played it a large number of times over the years, indeed I took it to the very first Oldhammer day at the original Foundry back in 2013. One thing I didn't do is post up the pictures of the game. Well looking through photos of the last couple of Oldhammer days I naturally came across the pictures and thought you'd like to see a pictorial account of how the game played out. It would after all be a shame to never let you all see this account of a gruelling battle fought long ago.

I'll annotate the pictures as best I can but this was  two years ago. My brother, Snicket took the Orcs and JeffMcC took the elves I was GMing.

The battle starts as usual with the elven force separated by a river. Forenrond has just been killed and Corma Lightmantle has taken over command in a tricky position.

Nobbla Ghenkins and The Pigstikkas view the elven cavalry.

The 1st elven Cavalry lead by Corma and the Notorious Philandr's 2nd Elven Cavalry.

Neo's Nasties take up position behind a hedge.

Open Sore Scabby Shooters defend the Orc camp.

The 3rd elven cavalry, with bows brings up the exposed elven rear (boom, boom).

An Oldhammer beer gut looms large over the Gobsmackin', Stunty Crumpin', Legbreakin', Eyegougin', Pepp's Killers.

Pepp, The real Fang, Sawtooth and his Killers rush forwards towards the 3rd Elven Cavalry, Drillas Killas also surge forward but Erny's Roamers are left squabbling amongst themselves.

The Pigstikkas approach the two leading Elven Cavalry units and release their fanatics.

At the end of the orcs first turn the elves are in danger of being caught in a trap.

The elves part left and right, mainly to avoid the fanatics but also to try a little encirclement of their own.

The Nasties  view the 2nd Elven cavalry with some worry and prepare to fire. At only fifteen strong they fear the elves.

Mean while the Killers, urged on by The Real Fang feel much more confident about tackling the 3rd Elven Cavalry.

In fact at the start of the Orc second turn they feel so confident they  get ready to charge.

Only to have Erny charge them in the rear over some slight long forgotten by Pepp.

The 3rd elven cavalry receive fire from Drillas Killers and flee as the Ialanth Archers lead by the Sensational Sola Brighthelm try to respond.

The other Elven Cavalry have also taken damage from Neo's Nasties, The Grusome Jobbos and the Open Sore boyz. The elite elven archers of the dashing Labrielle find that even their accurate fire has little impact against large groups of goblins hidden behind hedgerows. Cormas 1st Elven cavalry are lined up to charge Mandrack The Murderer and his Mad Molesters

But perhaps wisely choose to charge the Pigsttikas in the flank hoping to escape the Orc trap.

Meanwhile the 3rd Elven Cavalry under  leadership rally just before leaving the field of battle.

One of the fanatics whirls perilously close to  the 2nd Elven Cavalry.

Meanwhile the scrap between Erny's Roamers and Pepp's Killers keeps the two hard hitting units out of the action.

And here we leave the action until the next instalment. Some of you know how this ends because you were there or perhaps we've talked about it but for those of you who don't know for sure I'd love to hear how you think this will play out.

VRRRrrooooooMMMmmmmm!!!!!!! Back at ya.

Right this was going to be a lets get on and finish some stuff for BOYL15 post. But after WP's recent blog about his Ork Trucks I thought it time to start finishing my Ork truck for death race 40,000. The sea elf ship I've been working on can wait.

It didn't take long to find the RC truck I've been making and I decided it needed some arming and crewing. I want to put a bit more RT into it to, this is for the world (opps sorry North America),  joint world premier Oldhammer event.

I found out a couple of my old RT Ork Buggies and a bike and had at it with the blue tack.

The driver fits perfectly as does the chainsword wielding loony bike rider. I added the two buggy weapons and thought it still needed more. I tried fitting the bike auto cannon to the underside and in the middle of the front but offset just looked more Orky.

I'm going to leave them temporarily fixed for a few days to see if I'm certain but input from others is welcome. Should I just reinstate them with their original vehicles (who could all get plastic drivers and crew so no waste) or should I keep as is?

Not enough colour I know so with WP showing off his three Battle waggons I thought I'd raise him with something I've just found in my garage.

Sadly not my work, I did make one the very week the plans came out in WD and I have seen it in my current  garage but not for a while. I picked these up off ebay for about a tenner a couple of years ago. They are nicely done even if they used old glue sticks in stead of paint pots for gun barrels.

I've done it again! Getting ready for Oldhammer weekend in a rush.

Great flier from Zhu but there is a massive problem with it. LOOK AT THE DATE!!!!!!

How have I managed to leave it until there is only 2 months to go, again!

Fimm McCools awesome Chaos Dwarf Iron clad.

In this time I need to:

Make my ships for Oldhammer Ahoy.

Paint the crew for my ships.

Finish my 40K death racer for Captain Crooks game.

Make and paint half the track for the 40K deathrace.

Spruce up my RT orks for WhiskeyPriests Vulture Warriors Game.

And at the same time my hobby mind has gone all WW2 on me. Time to stop thinking about the defence of Calais and get Oldhammering.

Death race 40,000. Or building a better Ork Buggy. Or unleashing my inner Mekboy.

I've been following Captain Crooks and his plans to host a violent racing game at this years Oldhammer weekender, Deathrace 40,000. Quite apart from the fact that the game looks awesome the Captain is coming over from Oz to run it and he sent me a cheesbarian in the post. It would be rude  not to join in.

Now there really is only one choice I could make for my vehicle and crew it just boils down to how green I paint the orks and how red I paint the truck. I had an idea how I wanted the thing to look, it had to be a Orky monster truck so I could crush the opposition with my tires.

Something like this Beverly Hillbillies monster truck:

I decided to use a standard GorkaMorka truck but give it big wheels and whilst originally I wasn't thinking of exactly a Beverly Hillbillies truck but the idea is growing on me. To find big wheels I decide to do a quick search on ebay for suitable toys and that's when I found this:

Not quite the size wheels I was after but very cheap and remote control. It is quite possible a giant light bulb lit up above my head at this point. The car arrived all the way from Hong Kong at the weekend and L started stripping it down to see what I had.

First off its a good size, I should have put a miniature in this shot but trust me when I say it's about the right size.

The body of the car itself is a very thin polystyrene shell and easily removed.

The actual machine underneath is simple and has a few useful points for attaching pieces with screws. A bit of snipping of excess plastic on the RC car and a bit of drilling and I very quickly attached the front of a GorkaMorka Truck. I didn't quite match the front axles molded onto the truck with those of the car but its good enough and when the driver and gunner are in place it won't notice at all.

And here is the driver to test for size! He was actually saying, "Vrooom, vrooom", at this point. Or maybe it was me.

At the back is a point for attaching the rear spoiler, trimmed down it is the perfect point for attaching the truck's rear. So far so jolly easy, a quick test to ensure the thing still drove and it did. The truck may be light but it is way heavier than the original car shell. But the motor is actually pretty nippy.

Here is a side view to show how well this was working, the truck bed is higher than on the original model, in fact the rear of the RC car is just higher than the rear top of the trucks cab. This means the bed starts above the front seating and slopes very slightly up towards the back. I could not have planned it better.

Here I've added the front to the trucks cab and we are really looking the business.

Latter that night I started extending the trucks base. I added two lengths of H section plaststrut. I smiled a lot as I used liquid poly to weld the plastic to the bottom of the truck bed much as a Mekboy would weld steel beams to strengthen his latest creation. This proved problematic at the plaststrut interfered with the suspension. I dremmelled out a suitable space in the beamand began to plan the floor. The rear wheels gearing  stuck up into the space I needed and even more so when the suspension compressed.

I had to leave a hole in the floor and am currently thinking about my options. A mesh cage over the hole and the mechanism below would look cool but perhaps Orks don't care about health and safety and it should just be left as a hazard for careless grots to get killed in.

Ive been adding rivets and have begun to think about what else to add. If I'm going to drive it with crew in the back I'll have to stick them down but then the truck becomes less useful as a gaming piece which is the primary aim. I tried out the secondary use last night and managed to jump my Ork waggon over two rhinos (side to side). The only thing to fall off was an exhaust.

Necromunda: The OGRE Sump campaign.

When Necromunda came out I was at University and gaming wasn't high on my list of priorities. I didn't buy the game and wouldn't have gamed it if not for a campaign my Brother ran. Four years my junior Necromunda came along for him just at that perfect gaming age of I guess about 14-16. If the Oldhammer Community has taught me anything the games we play then seam to set the tone for our gaqming tatses for life. So it's no wonder my brother loved the game. However I did too and I think that's because even when for me GW was slowy taking the fun out of gaming Necromunda had one foot in the past already. Nothing new here, we all know of confrontation but at a time when GW seamed to be all about simple games for the kids the fun of Necromunda kept me interested. I never had a break from the hobby and Necromunda is partly to blame for that.

After a great game of RT at WP on his Ferrograd table I figure the time had come to resurect Necromunda and promptly invited everyone over for a afternoon and evening of gaming to get the first few turns of a new Campaign in. So before I post up a batrep for the fun my own gang had I guess I should introduce them, freshly painted this week they are still a work in progress. Oh the gangs names are all from friends I had aboput the time Necromunda came out..

Papa Erny in the middle flanked by MJ on the left and Hack on the right.

Slim with the stubba and BB with the Autopistol.

Ben with the club and MJ jr with the Lazpistol.

Stretch with the lazgun, Merc with the heavy stubber and Eats Dust the hired scout.

Somehow missing from the clos ups are MJ with lazgun and spiked club and plastic Stu with the plastic lazgun.

They still need a fair bit of work but just getting the eyes and hair done would help a lot.
